    Our swimming lessons focus on safety first, with particular attention focused on teaching techniques that may one day save a life.

    Children learn to become more independent in the water and begin to develop important water survival skills.

    Children will learn skills in:

    • basic stroke development;
    • body orientation;
    • personal and water safety;
    • propulsion and submersion.

    Swimming program levels

    Description 

    Tadpole

    Age range: 3-5 years

    Class size: 5:1

    Suitable for children who:

    • are not confident to submerge or swim independently;
    • have not had lessons before.

    What they'll learn:

    • aided jump entry and return to edge;
    • aided kick on front and back;
    • aided treading water;
    • extended arm paddle;
    • independent submersion with bubbles;
    • push and glide with bubbles;
    • torpedo three metres.

    Goldfish

    Age range: 3 - 5 years

    Class size: 5:1

    Suitable for children who:

    • can submerge independently;
    • can swim five metres independently without assistance;
    • have had lessons before.

    What they'll learn:

    • freestyle and backstroke arms;
    • independent rollover;
    • jump entry and return to edge;
    • recover object from chest-deep water;
    • torpedo three metres;
    • tread water for 15 second.

    Flying Fish

    Age range: 3-5 years

    Class size: 5:1

    Advanced class. For internal centre assessment and progression only.

    What they'll learn:

    • duck dive, swim underwater for three metres and recover an object;
    • freestyle and backstroke 10 metres;
    • introduction to breaststroke, survival backstroke and butterfly kick;
    • step in entry and recover;
    • throw a buoyant aid and direct a partner to safety.

      The below prices apply across all swimming levels. Payment is taken fortnightly by direct debit, with the total cost spread out across the year.

      Swimming lessons are 30 minutes in length.

      Squad lessons at Brunswick Baths run for either 45, 60, or 75 minutes.

    • How to enrol
      Submit a swimming lessons enquiry and a member of our team will be in touch to start the enrolment process. 
    • Requirements for this program
      • Children in nappies must wear aqua nappies that are tight fitting around the thighs (you can buy them in centre)
      • Bring swimwear, towel, goggles (recommended but not required) and dry clothes
      • Parents should bring swimwear during the first few lessons, in case the child gets upset and needs support in the water
      • Photos are allowed in the pool (but never in the change room area) – please respect others' privacy and get their consent
    • Safety and handover requirements

      To provide a safe environment for your child please:

      • come to the edge of the pool at the start of the lesson and directly hand over your child to the teacher;
      • watch the lesson;
      • stay as close as possible to the lesson (for example by sitting in the chairs around the pool);
      • come to the edge of the pool at the end of the lesson and collect your child;
      • if your child is participating in general swimming outside their lesson time, you will need to ensure you are in the water with them during this time.
