Turning of the sod at Oak Park

On Monday 8 May, Moreland Mayor, Cr Helen Davidson helped mark the official start of the redevelopment of Oak Park by turning the first sod. The redevelopment is well and truly underway with demolition of the old buildings in full swing. The site is changing rapidly.

The new facility will cater for 220,000 participants attending the precinct each year, over 3,000 members to the new aquatic and leisure centre, more than 8,000 group fitness program attendances, 45 school swim carnivals servicing over 15,000 students per year and an opportunity to employ up to 80 casual, part time and full time staff.

Oak Park Sports and Aquatic Precinct (OPSAP) redevelopment

Moreland City Council is excited to announce that the Oak Park Sports and Aquatic Precinct redevelopment is on schedule and is 80% complete. The bulk of the structural work is now completed with the finishing touches underway.

Construction update:


  • Pool tiling completed with fittings being installed
  • Swim wall installed (50m pool turned into 2 x 25m pools)
  • Pool concourse concreting complete
  • Major pool plant room components installed with final fit off underway
  • Water slides erected and are very close to being ready to ride
  • Shade sails and structures being installed

Aquatic Building and Gym

  • Walls painted and flooring being laid
  • Electrical and plumbing fit off is underway
  • Joinery (cabinets) being installed including customer service desk

Sports Pavilion

  • Walls painted and flooring is completed
  • Electrical and plumbing fit off underway
  • Decking at front and rear of the building being installed

Car Park

  • Earth works completed for new carpark with 122 formal spots to be available
